Then cook it in a rice cooker or saucepan using the correct amount of water (usually 1:1.1 to 1:1.2). For sushi rice, it is then seasoned with sushi vinegar and left to cool slightly. This preserves the flavour and ensures the rice keeps for many months.<\/p>\n\n<p>Please note that the rice comes directly from Japan and has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of packaging, as specified by the manufacturer. As transport by ship to Europe usually takes at least 6 months, the printed best-before date is correspondingly shorter upon arrival. Please note, therefore, that the remaining shelf life of the product at the time of sale is often only a few months or weeks.
