What is Hon Mirin?

Hon Mirin is a traditional Japanese cooking wine, which is made from rice and alcohol produced Koji and alcohol is made. Through fermentation a natural sweetness is produced and a complex flavour. In the Japanese cuisine is Mirin often used together with soy sauce, Sake or sugar to give dishes a balanced blend of sweetness and Umami to give.

What does mirin taste like?

Mirin has a mild, natural sweetness and a slightly syrupy consistency. Its flavour is smooth and rounded, and it pairs well with savoury ingredients such as soy sauce. This creates the characteristic balance found in many Japanese sauces and glazes.

What is the difference between Hon Mirin and fake mirin?

Authentic Hon Mirin is produced through fermentation of rice and contains alcohol. Many cheaper products are in contrast so-called Mirin seasonings, which are made sugar or syrup are made. Hon Mirin has a more complex flavour and is therefore the preferred choice in Japanese cuisine.

How should I store Hon Mirin?
